Using Maya: Making Curves.

For the top part of my door, I wanted either ends to curve upwards instead of pointing up at a straight angle.

To do this, I had to divide my top piece into more sections. The reason for this depends on how much I want the ends to curve, the more divisions the smoother it will be. I used the 'Insert edge loop' took and added another 3 divisions.

Now to make the curve. I double clicked on the 'Move tool' and a list of options appeared.

I then clicked 'Soft Select' on this option. This enables me to adjust the edges with a smoother angle.

I then selected the 'Edges' tool so I could drag them out with the soft selection.

I select the 3 central edge loops I made previously, by holding down the shift key and clicking them.

From there, I pulled out the 3 edges gradually, until I was pleased with the curve shape.

I repeated this process on the opposite side. I avoided using the 'mirror geometry' tool at this time, as  I wanted to fully grasp the concept of the 'soft select' tool. One thing I had to be careful, was to turn it off when NOT making curves, as this distorts the shapes of my other objects when I moved them. Overall, I think my curves turned out okay!
